Debate over Merit Pay

http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/518/merit-pay-debate.html

This is an interesting debate over merit pay and its effectiveness.  It is from PBS.org and helps an individual understand the pros and cons of the issue.  I cannot say it changed my mind either way, and I do not expect it to change anyone else' mind.  However, it does give more perspective and information on the issue.  This is not an audio or video debate.  The debate transcribed and the individuals' answers are written out in text.  Check it out!

  1. Gary Ritter does a good job convincing me that this is a good thing. Removing the pay scale because of tenure and hanging salary/pay it on the individual teacher effectiveness (as yet to be determined how that is calculated) does appeal to policy makers and taxpayers. They want to know that they are getting what they paid for. Of course if the quality of their education is based on the institution from which they graduate, then we could be in real trouble because we all know not all teacher preparation programs are equal.
